Charged with examining implications of federal stimulus bill for Pennsylvania
Rep. Duane D. Milne, Ph.D. (R-Chester) has been named a chair of the Pennsylvania House subcommittee on Federal and State Relations.
The first order of business of the subcommittee is to take a lead role in analyzing the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the “stimulus”), with a particular emphasis on what the stimulus act may mean for Pennsylvania. The subcommittee will help examine what provisions of this mammoth 1,100 page piece of legislation are potentially positive for Pennsylvania, assess what parts possibly should be turned down, and in general monitor how the stimulus will impact the Pennsylvania state budget.
“The recovery of the American economy will require much cooperation between the state and federal governments,” said Milne. “Serving as co-chair of this subcommittee puts me in a key role to be part of this important process on behalf of the entire state.”
This spring the House will be considering several bills dealing with the use of stimulus funds in conjunction with crafting the state budget, a process which is underway in earnest in Harrisburg. Hearings about the shape of the state budget were recently concluded by the state legislature and upcoming budget negotiations will include much debate about potential uses of stimulus funds in Pennsylvania.
